Lighters

A common tool to start a fire is a lighter which may come in a great variety of options in terms of functionality and styles. Some lighters require lighter fluid in order to function while others emit ultraviolet beams have heat intense enough to start fires. Some lighters are small enough to carry in the pocket while others have a extensions for safer fire starting but are not adjustable while the more modern lighters are adjustable to fit a current need.

Electronic Lighters

A modernized twist on tradition lighters is an electronic lighter. Rechargeable, resistant to damage and water, and does not need fuel to be operated. What makes an electronic lighter so attractive is the fact that one could save a bit of money on lighter fluid, the down side is that it does require charging in order to operate but that can be be remedied by having a portable charger or any other means of charging the electronic lighter away from conventional means.

One such electronic lighter is from LCfun (click here) It is in the shape of a traditional flip lighter and has much of the same functionalities, however it is resistant to damage and water and emits a couple of beams of UV light that are crossed and superheated to start fires.

Electronic lighters not only in the traditional flip lighter shape but can also come in the form of grill lighters with adjustable hoses (or in the case of a electronic lighter, a cable) which is convenient for those who want a bit of distance between themselves and the fire being started. An electronic lighter that is also adjustable from Mooye(click here) might be what you are looking for

Word of warning, do not use on any metallic objects, this may cause you harm and/or damage the lighter itself and the buckle must be sealed shut before being considered waterproof.

If electronic lighters are not a thing you might be interested in the perhaps a permanent match might be what you are interested in.

Permanent Matches

Perhaps “permanent” might be misleading for a Permanent Match, it is functionally a lighter but unlike an electronic lighter it has a wick and has lighter fluid to function. The convenience that can come from a permanent match is portability and reliability and is a popular option for those who do not wish to simply charge a up an electronic lighter. Capable of lighting up thousands of times before needing to be refilled and having the wick replaced.

A permanent match such as the one sold by Survive(click here) is what you are looking for. Simple design and effective. Just make sure that the container ir full of lighter fluid and the wick is sufficient before leaving home.

Basic Lighters

Perhaps an electronic lighter or a permanent match is a bit too much. Perhaps a more traditional lighter is what is needed and there is no shame in shame in something more tradtional such as a basic lighter. Nothing is more basic than a Bic lighter(click here) which is all that is truly needed in order to start a fire with minimal effort.

What would be the best option?

That would just be a matter of personal preference. Would you prefer a more modern or more traditional lighter? An eletronic lighter would certainly remove all doubt for an accident to occur because of the lighter fluid but you would have to rely on the charge available in a electronic lighter, however a permanent match runs the risk of having to deal with lighter fluid and the wick but will not have to worry about a charge in order to use the permanent match.
